While it’s becoming increasingly common for couples to host their wedding ceremony and reception at the same location, some marriers opt for the more traditional route of separate locations. If you’re considering getting married somewhere other than your wedding reception venue, like a house of worship or outdoor location, here are a few things to consider.
Timing
When it comes to your timeline, having two separate venues will require more coordination so your day doesn’t feel rushed. Think about the distance and travel time between venues and how you might need to adjust your wedding day timeline to make sure you and your guests arrive at each location on time.
Transportation
How are you and your wedding party getting to each location? It may be necessary to hire a shuttle service to carry your group to and from getting-ready locations, your ceremony venue, photo op locations, and your reception venue. Be sure to work transportation costs into your budget!
Budget
Speaking of budget, two separate locations may be more costly, so be sure to account for that when discussing how to allocate funds. Additional costs usually include transportation, two venue rental fees, and extra fees if a vendor is moving décor from one venue to the next.
Availability
You’ll need to confirm that both venues are available on your preferred date before booking. Depending on the time of the year (December-February is the busiest time for venue bookings!), that may require a lot of quick communication in a short amount of time. Check available dates with both locations, then be prepared to book both as soon as you’ve made a decision so your preferred date doesn’t disappear!
